When I was new to the curly girl method, I looked for someone with a similar curl pattern to mine. I thought if I found someone else with loosely wavy hair and followed their routine, it should work for me. Spoiler alert – it didn’t! I later found out this was largely due to differences in our hair type. While we both had wavy hair, we had different thickness, density and porosity.
Finding a blogger or YouTuber or TikTokker or Instagram person with your hair properties can be really helpful. I thought I’d put together a list of wavy and/or curly influencers or content creators and their hair types. Hopefully this can help you find people who have hair really similar to yours, if not your exact hair type.

Can You Learn From People With A Different Hair Type?
I personally think so! I’ve definitely learned some awesome information from people who have different hair stats than I have. I also feel that even when someone has all 3 hair stats that match mine, we still may find differences in how our hair reacts to certain products or techniques.
Maybe length makes a difference, maybe it’s just styling preferences, maybe it’s differences in the weather where we live, maybe it’s skin type or medical issues that change our scalp or hair in some unexplained way….but for whatever reason, I don’t think hair type tells you 100% of what you need to know about what works for your hair. I think it can tell you a lot, but not everything.
On the flip side, sometimes people will have notably different hair stats than what I have, but some of their suggestions will still work for my hair type. I like consuming content from a wide range of wavy hair content creators and experimenting on my own hair to learn what really works best for me.
