The Best Diffuser For Wavy Hair | 5 Diffusers Compared (W/ Pics)

If you’ve been around my blog much at all, you likely know that I am all about diffusing. My hair holds onto water for hours if I try to air dry. I get much better results from diffusing, and it keeps me from waiting around all day on my hair to dry!

Something I’ve occasionally been asked in comments is what I think the best diffuser is. Until a few months ago, I had only ever used one diffuser, the Xtava black orchid. I bought it because it was recommended by a YouTuber I followed, so I bought it and liked it and stuck with it.

For Christmas, my boyfriend bought me the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer. It comes with is own diffuser and the Xtava isn’t compatible with it, so using the Dyson brand diffuser was my first time trying a new type of diffuser.

After that, I got curious about other diffusers. I ordered a few other diffusers on Amazon (ones that I saw were most frequently purchased) to learn more about differences in diffusers, and so I could do this post for you guys!

I Tested 5 popular hair diffusers on my wavy hair to find out what the best diffuser for wavy hair is!

In an attempt to keep my comparisons similar, I used the same hair products each time that I tested a new diffuser. I also attempted to use the same product styling techniques and styling routine. This way, hopefully any changes in results I got on different days could be attributed to the diffuser.

CVS Drugstore Curly Girl Method For Wavy Hair

If you’re looking to start the curly girl method, it’s easy to get overwhelmed quickly! There are so many product options, and routine options.  often advise people to just jump in, rather than trying to make all the ‘perfect’ choices for your hair type from the get-go. Most of us will end up changing products and techniques as we go along and experiment with our hair.

With that in mind, I think it makes sense to start with affordable products. There are some really nice, really expensive curly girl approved products out there. You may decide that they’re worth the cost someday. When you’re new and just learning about your hair, I think it makes sense to stick with drugstore products until you get a better sense of what your hair does and doesn’t like.

This post is a CVS drugstore curly girl method starter kit for wavy hair. If you’re looking to start the curly girl method by shopping at CVS, this post has you covered!

To get started with the CGM at CVS I’d recommend buying the following:

  • Suave daily clarifying shampoo
  • Eva NYC mane magic 10-in-1 shampoo
  • Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Masque
  • Tresemme mega control hair gel level 5.

My total cost was $27 and change, but one item was on sale and I had $2 extra care bucks. At full price it would have bee around $32.

Wavy Hair And Hormones | Puberty, Pregnancy & Menopause

March 9, 2022 by Emily Evert 2 Comments

How puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause and other hormone changes can change wavy hair.

Can Puberty Make Straight Hair Turn Wavy or Curly?

Puberty can cause changes to hair texture. For some kids their hair will go from straight to wavy or curly. For others, their formerly wavy or curly hair may get straighter!

Androgens are male hormones but both sexes have some, and both genders have an increase in androgens during puberty. This increase in androgens is responsible for increased body hair seen during puberty, and it can also change the hair folicle shape from round to flat which can change hair from straight to curly. Can Pregnancy Make Straight Hair Wavy or Curly?

Pregnancy and/or postpartum hormone changes can change hair texture. Some women find that their hair gets curly during pregnancy, but goes back to being straight after having the baby. For other women, the curls will hang around long-term!

Some women find that their hair gets curlier during or after pregnancy, while others see their hair get straighter during or after the pregnancy.

Pregnancy prolongs the growth cycle of hair. It’s common for women to get really thick, healthy hair while pregnant, and then to experience a lot of hair loss at the end of pregnancy or in the weeks after the baby is born. (source: WomensHealthMag.com.)

Can Menopause Make Straight Hair Wavy Or Curly?

The hormone changes that occur around menopause can change hair texture. Some have their hair get curlier, some have their hair get straighter.

From about 14-23 there are hardly any pictures of me without my hair straightened! Here is a rare one, I think I was about 17 here. When I didn’t straighten my hair it didn’t look wavy, it was just ‘poofy’.

Wavy Curly Girl Method Starter Kit From Amazon {& Routine}

Under $30 amazon curly girl method routine for wavy hair

When I started the curly girl method four years ago, I was really excited to get started. I initially thought I would order products on Amazon instead of waiting to go to the store. That is, until I looked up the products I wanted to buy on Amazon and realized they were more than twice the price that they would cost in store!

It’s common for hair care products to be overpriced online because they’re expensive to ship, due to being heavy for their size. For example, a $5 bottle for shampoo might cost $5 to ship.

Anyway. I’ve since learned that you can get good deals when shopping for wavy or curly hair products on Amazon, but you have to be selective about what you order.

For example, I often recommend LA looks gel to newbies. The reason why I recommend it is because it’s a good gel at a great price, just $2 at any of the local stores in my area.

On Amazon it’s $9. Similarly, I often recommend Suave daily clarifying shampoo because it’s a good clarifying shampoo and it’s just $1 for a regular bottle or $2 for a huge bottle locally. On Amazon the regular bottle is $9.45!

Anyway, I thought I’d pull together a starter wavy hair routine for those interested in starting the curly girl method and wanting to order from Amazon. I’ve specifically looked up products that are to overpriced on Amazon vs in store. These are all products that I’ve personally used and have been happy with.

Starting The Curly Girl Method With Products From Amazon

My recommendations:

Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo (for removing build-up 1-2 times per month) ($5.29 on Amazon)

Pacifica Beauty Salty Waves Texturizing shampoo (for regular wash day use) ($9.99 on Amazon). This shampoo is on the stronger side while still being curly girl approved.

Pacifica pineapple curls conditioner is $8.09 on Amazon. The conditioner has nice slip, and isn’t too heavy.

Garnier Pure Clean Gel ($3.42 on Amazon)

If you are just looking for the basics to get started, those four products are all you absolutely need.
