Shark HyperAIR Hair Dryer Review On Wavy Hair

June 2, 2023 by Emily Evert Leave a Comment

In wavy and curly hair communities, there are two hair dryers that most people talk about wanting. One is the Dyson Supersonic, which I did a Dyson Supersonic On Wavy Hair review of a long time ago. The Dyson is the most expensive hair dryer out there, and I think generally seen as the best. However, the sometimes people will argue that the Shark is actually just as good, or even better, at a lower price point.

I’ve always wondered if the Shark really could be as good or even better than the Dyson, given that it sells for about half the cost. In my Dyson review I shared how I don’t love the diffuser attachment that comes with the Dyson. As someone with wavy hair, the diffuser is a big deal as I use it each time I do my hair. Plus, the Dyson is designed to have magnetic attachments, so diffusers or attachments from other blow dryers don’t work with it unless you get really creative with finding a way to make the attachment stay in place.

The Shark HyperAIR comes with a diffuser that I thought looked a lot better, which was one of the top reasons I was interested in trying the dryer. I didn’t want to pay full price for it, but I watched eBay until I found a working model that was around $60 shipped and jumped on that! I did make sure that it was real and not a knockoff.

Trying Prose Customized Hair Products On My Wavy Hair

January 7, 2023 by Emily Evert Leave a Comment

I was given the opportunity to try Prose hair products for review. I didn’t pay to buy these products. I’m not being paid to write this review. My intention is to do my best to be as unbiased as possible when doing reviews, even when the products were sent to me.

Prose Custom Hair Products On Wavy Hair Review

In the wavy and curly hair groups that I hang out in, every once in a while people start threads asking about custom haircare options. Many people get to a point where they feel like they’ve tried a lot of products and wonder if getting something custom-made would be a good route to take.

In the past I tried Function Of Beauty. FOB makes semi-customizable products that are sold at Target, and then fully customizable products on their website. I did a Function Of Beauty Review that featured the fully customized products if you want to check that out. I was curious to see how Prose products may compare to Function Of Beauty, as these two brands are the two I most often see discussed when customized hair care is brought up.

I took the haircare survey which asked me about my hair and my routine. They factor in things like your curl texture, hair strand thickness, how simple or elaborate of a routine you’re comfortable with, and more. You’re also able to share your hair goals and they factor those in as well. From my results, I was sent a pre-shampoo, a shampoo, a conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, and a curl cream. I requested that my products be made silicone-free. All Prose products are sulfate-free, and also free of parabens, mineral oils, gluten, dyes, GMOs, and animal cruelty.

Dyson SuperSonic Hair Dryer Review | Is It Worth It?

March 22, 2022 by Emily Evert 5 Comments

In my gift guide for wavy curly girls, I mentioned how getting the Dyson SuperSonic Hair Dryer as a gift would make anyone feel spoiled! My boyfriend doesn’t read my blog unless I ask him to edit or otherwise help me. I didn’t ask him to edit that post, so I was shocked that he got me the Dyson SuperSonic for Christmas. I didn’t ask for it, I hadn’t told him about it, etc. I’m usually a frugal person so I felt a bit bad that he bought it for me, honestly. He’s super sweet. $400 is a lot for a blow dryer though.

I can’t deny that I love it, though! My hair would literally take all day to air dry, so I have to diffuse. Yet, I find diffusing to be my least-favorite part of styling my hair wavy. It just gets boring because it takes so long. The Dyson makes washday more enjoyable for me because it reduces how long I have to spend diffusing.

Using The Dyson SuperSonic And Diffuser On Wavy Hair

My first thoughts and biggest overall takeaway? It’s REALLY hot. You can use it heatless, or on low, medium or high heat. The “low” heat on this is equivalent to the ‘high’ heat setting on my old dryer. It’s so hot that I have to push the ‘cool burst’ button often or it would be uncomfortable on my scalp.

The Dyson website says that they use intelligent heat control, which measures the air temperature 40 times per second to regulate the heat. This regulation of the heat prevents extreme heat damage. I assume this is, in fact, true – but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t feel really hot on your head.

They also say that their blow dryer attachments are engineered to stay cool to the touch. I have found his to be true. When I had my hair diffused in a salon last summer, the prongs of the diffuser she used were painfully hot on my scalp. With the diffuser on the Dyson SuperSonic, I don’t find that the diffuser prongs get painfully hot, it’s just the air itself that can get uncomfortably warm.

My next big takeaway from using this blow dryer is how much more comfortable it is to use. The Dyson blow dryer is shorter than many blow dryers, so even with the diffuser on it, it’s shorter than just the body of my old blow dryer was. This means I don’t have to hold my arm as far out from my head when holding this blow dryer. It’s easier on my arm and shoulder.

Curly Girl Method Products On Amazon

January 28, 2023 by Emily Evert 1 Comment

If you’re looking to start the curly girl method by shopping on Amazon, it’s easy to overspend. Hair products tend to be heavy which means shipping them isn’t cheap. Due to this, hair products are often marked up in price on Amazon – sometimes significantly! If you’re wanting to avoid overspending, this post is for you. I’ve gathered different categories of curly girl method approved products that you can buy on Amazon that aren’t overpriced vs their in-store prices.

Tips for buying curly girl method products on Amazon:

Check the prices with your local store websites if you aren’t sure of their typical price. Some lower-end hair products are really overpriced on Amazon! In some cases, 4x their regular price or so! It can be really wild.

Check which amazon store or amazon seller you’re buying from. Try to purchase directly from the brand or from a reputable retailer.

Are there counterfeit products sold on amazon as the real thing?

I’ve bought several hair products on Amazon that I had also bought locally or from major retailers like Ulta in the past. I have never received anything from Amazon that seemed fake in any way. So, I’ve always wondered why some people refuse to buy hair products on Amazon due to fears of ‘fake products’.

I’ve wondered if that was even a real thing that happens. Business Insider did a story on it, so it really can happen. They said it happens on items purchased on Walmart.com, too. This is why I gave the tip above of shopping from a brand or amazon seller that you know is legit rather than a random third party reseller.

Are Curly girl method products more expensive on amazon?

Often times curly hair products are more expensive on Amazon, but not always. If you’re watching your budget, you just want to be mindful of the regular price of an item and check the amazon price. Additionally, the cost of items on Amazon can change at any time.
